📖 About the 양력 Hijri Calendar

The 태양 히즈리력 (Persian: هجری شمسی) is the official calendar of Iran and Afghanistan. It begins on the vernal equinox (Nowruz) and uses the same epoch as the Islamic Hijri calendar — the Prophet Muhammad's migration (Hijra) in 622 CE.

Unlike the Islamic Hijri calendar (which is lunar), the 태양 히즈리력 is a solar calendar, meaning it stays aligned with the seasons. The first six months have 31 일 each, the next five have 30 일, and the last month has 29 일 (30 in leap years).

🎋 Haft-Sin (The Seven S's)

The central tradition of Nowruz is setting up a Haft-Sin table — seven items whose names begin with the Persian letter "S" (سین), each symbolizing a hope for the new year:

  • Sabzeh (سبزه): Sprouts — rebirth & renewal
  • Samanu (سمنو): Wheat pudding — affluence
  • Senjed (سنجد): Dried lotus — love
  • Seer (سیر): Garlic — medicine & health
  • Seeb (سیب): Apple — beauty & health
  • Somāq (سماق): Sumac — sunrise & patience
  • Serkeh (سرکه): Vinegar — age & wisdom
